CompTIA A+ certified professionals are proven problem solvers supporting today’s core technologies. While they support different critical-path teams as IT Support pros, it can open up opportunities with different career specializations:

• Security Operations Center – Security Analyst, Penetration Test, Network Specialist
• Network Operations Center – Network Admin, Systems Admin, Data Center Manager
• IT Applilcations Support – Systems Analyst, Business Analyst, Ops Analyst



The CompTIA A+ certification you earned is very much different from the new CompTIA A+ Core Series. The new Core Series focuses on enabling end users and devices to securely access the data needed to complete a task.

• IoT is expanded with both device hardware and device connectivity addressed
• Scripting is introduced as an important technical support tool
• Cloud and virtualization get a dedicated domain
• Troubleshooting and problem solving for real-time IT support challenges



To be a CompTIA A+ Certified, the candidate is required to pass two exams: Core 1 (220-1001) and Core 2 (220-1002). Core skills covered in these exams:

• Hardware – PCs and mobile devices, hardware components, IoT and embedded systems
• Infrastructure – Network Architecture, Network components and protocols
• Software – cloud based, operating systems, email administration
• Data – Data backup and recovery, storage and management, analytics
• Security issues –Security settings and administration, threats and vulnerabilities, prevention methods and tools
• Operations and Service – troubleshooting and problem solving, foundational IT skills, customer service and other soft skills


With this relaunched CompTIA A+ certification, it ensures a skillset that goes beyond the role of an IT Support role. Expansion of baseline security topics and a different approach to defining competency in operational procedures, addresses a wide array of technical issues in a complex IT environment.


Note: If you choose to pursue the 900 series, you must take the required exams on or before July 31, 2019, in order to get your CompTIA A+ certification.
