Scale workloads quickly, as needed, adding resources incrementally without the expense and inefficiency of overprovisioning. The groundbreaking FX architecture combines efficient management with flexible data center building blocks to optimize for both modern and legacy workloads. These blocks include:
Combine various modules with the FX2 chassis, a compact 2U rack-based enclosure that shares cooling, power, networking and PCI expansion slots, to quickly deploy the exact combination of compute, storage and networking resources you need to best fulfill your business requirements.

Components
Meet the demands of a mobile, data-analytics heavy, cloud-driven era with more choice and less complexity. Optimize your data center for both modern and legacy workloads with the PowerEdge FX modular architecture, combining efficient management with flexible IT building blocks of servers, storage and networking to ensure high productivity and service delivery.
Workload optimization
Help lower overall costs and improve workload performance with the unprecedented level of IT infrastructure density the FX modular architecture offers. Scale your data center with “bite-sized” modular blocks of computing resources that allow you to closely match your workload's exacting specifications.
Data center efficiency
Achieve phenomenal data center flexibility for important workloads, including dense virtualization or scale-out Hadoop environments for Big Data analysis. A full portfolio of FX components and performance-enhancing technologies allows you to fine-tune your data center to the peak of efficiency.
Simplified management
Simplify building and managing data centers by combining Dell EMC OpenManage enterprise-level systems management and hypervisor integration with a modular infrastructure. Deploy and provision your servers faster and automate daily operations with agent-free lifecycle management through the integrated Dell EMC Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) with Lifecycle Controller and the Dell EMC Chassis Management Controller (CMC).
Meet the PowerEdge FX2
Server blocks powered by latest Intel processors
Server blocks at the heart of the FX converged architecture are powered by the latest Intel® Xeon® processors. They include:
FC430: 2-socket, quarter-width 1U high-density server block with optional InfiniBand configuration
FC630: 2-socket, half-width 1U workhorse server block ideal for a wide variety of business applications
FC830: Powerful 4-socket, full-width 1U server block for mid-size and enterprise data centers
FM120x4: Half-width 1U sled housing up to four separate Intel® Atom® powered single-socket microservers offers up to 16 microservers per 2U.
The FX architecture also includes the FD332 storage module
FD332–Flexible, high-density FX storage
Now you can rapidly scale direct attached storage (DAS) in your FX-based infrastructures with the FD332 half-width 1U storage module. It lets you create an easily scalable storage environment that supports balanced data growth on an as-needed basis, enabling you to tailor your storage needs to the workloads you are running and avoid overprovisioning. Because it supports SAS and SATA, both HDD and SSD, you can readily adapt to the performance needs of your applications, and when appropriate, you can create software defined storage environments with a combination of hard drives and solid state drives.
FC830–Powerful scale-up server
The FC830 is a full-width 4-socket server block that combines powerful processors, enormous memory capacity and a highly expandable storage subsystem. It excels at running a wide range of applications and virtualization environments for both mid-size and large enterprises. It can readily handle demanding, mission-critical workloads, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), data warehousing, e-commerce, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), databases and data node high-performance computing (HPC).
FC430 – The ultimate in converged-platform server density
The FC430 is a compact quarter-width server block that combines powerful processors, great memory capacity and tremendous IO throughput. In its two-storage-drive configuration, it is well suited for mainstream enterprise workloads, such as web serving, dedicated hosting and lightweight virtualization and analytics. In its InfiniBand configuration, it is an excellent option for high-performance computing (HPC), high-frequency trading (HFT) and other workloads that require extra-low latency.
